About The Ovens Natural Park

Located on the rugged eastern shore of Nova Scotia, The Ovens Natural Park stretches over 140 acres of coastal wilderness famed for its dramatic sea caves carved into high granite cliffs. The park’s geological history is carved by the forces of ocean waves and glacial activity, creating deep caves and layered rock formations that offer an immersive exploration experience. Dense mixed forests cover much of the inland area, offering habitats for local wildlife and a shaded environment for walking trails. Visitors can explore a variety of well-maintained paths leading to sea caves where the powerful Atlantic tide rhythms create spectacular natural displays at the shoreline. Historically, the site was used by Indigenous peoples and later by settlers for fishing and resource gathering. Today, it provides an accessible and family-friendly outdoor experience with interpretative signage explaining natural and cultural history. Key recreation opportunities include hiking, tide pooling, birdwatching, and picnicking with views overlooking the Atlantic Ocean. The park is also a prime location for observing marine life such as seals, seabirds, and occasionally whales offshore. Its proximity to the community of Liscomb and the Marine Drive scenic route makes it a recognized destination for day visitors and photographers aiming to capture dynamic coastal landscapes. Careful trail maintenance and visitor education support the preservation of the fragile coastal geology and ecosystems while allowing visitors to experience one of Nova Scotia's distinctive natural attractions.
